Benefits of RE
Quite simply the benefits of RE are that they are all focussed on reducing our negative impact on planet earth.
We know our planet has finite resources, but the way we live doesn’t reflect that. We all need more RE in our lives to give us the chance to have any chance of holding the increase in global average temperatures to well below 2 °C of warming (Paris Agreement).
Extending the lifetime of products can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, conserve water, and slow the depletion of finite resources. Every time we reuse or repair instead of replace, we shrink our footprint and move closer to a world where economic activity is decoupled from resource depletion.
Here at REcheck, we’ve chosen five REs that we think will help you make a big difference in your impact.
REuse
Use again and again and again. Your old tech can be a lifeline to a disadvantaged youth. Clothes you outgrow will outshine on others. Toys and books don't have a use by date - they just need a playmate. More..
REpair
Skilled and DIY repairs extend life. Respecting resources, and repairing whenever you can keep items in use, and reduces the need for new resources. Fight for the right to repair! More..
REnt
Sharing is caring. There are a growing number of services that allow you to borrow or share items - toys, clothes, tools, party kits, camping hear, household items - even art! More...
REpurpose
Creative deas for other uses for the item. Worn sheets and towels are still useful for pet shelters. Coffee capsules make fabulous jewellery. Pool toys that sink transform into fabulous waterproof bags. More..
REcycle
We’re giving you options beyond your curbside bins. There are recycling solutions for specific waste streams, eg. blister packs, bottle lids, bread tags, tyres, shoes, polystryrene, soft plastics and so much more. More..
We could talk RE all day…really.
But we’ll just add one more for you to ponder as it can be applied every day.
REthink
- Think twice before you buying anything.
- Could you dine to avoid any single use items?
- Could you manage to carry two items in your hands rather than a shopping bag?
- Does that {insert blank} really need to be new to serve your purpose? Would ‘new to you’ do the job?
- Could you combine those two trips into one to save emissions?
- Could you give the kids school bags a good wash, rather than buying a new one for the new school year?
Within reach
Get more RE in your life. Every little change or choice makes a difference. And if you find it hard, that’s OK, because everything is hard until it’s easy. My kids hear that one, A LOT.
REcheck is here to help you.
